Bob Dylan 24-8-14 Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Center.

A few photos from last nights Dylan gig, very low light conditions
so it was difficult. The performance was fantastic,
the best of the 3 times I've seen him.
Great band and much nicer venue than the entertainment center.
He played 2 sets, no support, mostly newer songs from Tempest,
a few classics thrown in,
Tangled up in blue and Simple Twist of Fate were my highlights
and the encore of All along the Watchtower and Blowing in the Wind.
It may well be the last time He makes it out this way at 73 years old.

Brisbane Electronic Music 1979 to 2014: The BNE Event

For lovers of Brisbane Music and Culture this is one
of the greatest things to happen here for ages!

This has been a massive undertaking,
but an incredible journey of discovery.
Brisbane has always been a unique and
sometimes challenging place for artistic endeavor,
particularly with respect to our city’s social, political
and geographic context and BNE captures the spirit of true
innovation in the modern art form that is electronic music.
There are some wonderful stories in BNE,
but most importantly there is a lot of amazing music.

DENNIS REMMER TRANS:COM

Luminary Brisbane electronic acts reform to celebrate
the city’s electronic music achievements
The BNE Project celebrates 35 years of independent
electronic music production in Brisbane from 1979 to 2014,
through the release of a new book and music archive featuring
140 bands & artists and over 260 tracks.

BNE was researched and produced by
Dennis Remmer – co owner of Brisbane record label
Transmission Communications (Trans:Com)  and will be launched
at the Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday, 6 September 2014.
The BNE event features live performances from The Megamen,
Vision Four 5, Soma Rasa, and Boxcar, supported by DJ Jen-E;
all of which are luminaries in the Brisbane scene and several
of which who have reformed' exclusively' for 'this' event.
The event will also feature a pop-up record store dedicated to
rare and unique Brisbane only music productions.

Tickets for the event are only $30 for standard,
or $90 for the deluxe package
(which includes a copy of the BNE book and music archive).

Vital Juices Records First Birthday

One of the more fantastic things to happen in my neck
of the woods in last last year was this wonderful
record store opening and just a few months before
I decided to return to vinyl.

I have been introduced to some amazing music by shop
patron Grant and have picked up lots of old favorites.
There's a fantastic buzz about the place and Grant
pulls out all the stops when celebrating
Along with his incredible musical knowledge and
service I can't recommend this place enough.
There's so few places like this these days so you
have to support them and I can tell you Grant
supports the local music scene and quite a lot of the
local acts are releasing on vinyl now.
As part of the first birthday celebrations there was
an art exhibition, something that's happened here before,
as well live music performances and a photo booth
project, where people could come in and get
photographed with there favorite album that they
bought here in the last year.
I had so many good one to chose from but went
with Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left
while my Youngest son came along with his pick
The Hits, Hikikomori, a much hipper choice than mine
The Hinterlanders where once again fantastic to see,
 putting on a fine performance
and very unfortunately I had to miss Halfway,
but I will see them one day!

The Sports - Don't Throw Stones

Formed in 1976 in Melbourne the Sports towered above so
many bands to become one of the best and fondly remembered
Australian bands from the era.
When Andrew Pendlebury joined in 1977 one of Australian music
most enduring partnerships begun, with both artists helping the
other out on their later brilliant solo projects.

This their brilliant debut Lp was released in early 1979 and became
part of the new wave of music that was called um,
New Wave oddly enough.
The album had 3 singles and the photos here come from my vinyl
copies I picked up recently that included the
Reckless/Mailed it to your Sister 7 "single.
Which I haven't included in this download.

The Sport went on to release other 3 or so EPs
and 3 or so Lps as well as a couple of greatest hits
type compilations.
They split in 1981 and both Stephen and Andrew embarked
on successful solo careers.
